Our lake tales the blog
Tales and moments, mysticism and magic
History or stories? Dream or reality? The boundaries between reality and fiction blur almost imperceptibly. The cuckoo murmurs, the pine whispers, the little brook gurgles. And they all tell stories of their experiences and fantasies. Around the Wolfsgrubner Lake.
At the Weihrerhof, sustainability is not a project with a finish line. It is more a path we continue to follow every day. Through many small decisions. Through some larger investments. And often simply through common sense.
In 2025, we once again tried to make our hotel a little more conscious, resource-friendly and future-oriented. Not perfect. But honest and consistent.

SDI Gold Status confirmed once again
We were especially happy that the Weihrerhof received the SDI Gold Status again in 2025. This independent sustainability rating evaluates hotels in areas such as energy, water consumption, regional value creation, social responsibility and long-term management.
For us, this award is above all a confirmation that many small actions together can truly make a difference.
As a small nature hotel directly on Lake Wolfsgruben, we consciously try not to see sustainability as a trend, but simply as part of our everyday life.

New trees for the Weihrerhof forest
One of our special projects in 2025 was planting new trees in our own forest surrounding the Weihrerhof.
In total, we planted 120 new trees to strengthen the forest in the long term and help preserve it for future generations.
For us, the forest is much more than scenery. It is a habitat, a climate buffer, a place of peace and an essential part of what makes this place so special.
Especially in times of drought, extreme weather and increasing pressure on forests, we believe that natural mixed forests are becoming more important than ever.
Anyone walking by the lake in the early morning or heading directly into the forest from the hotel can feel this natural cycle almost automatically.

Uferblicke: When sustainability tells stories
A project especially close to our hearts in 2025 was “Uferblicke”, which received an award as part of ETSM 2030. It is not about large technologies or complicated concepts, but about something very simple: taking a closer look.
Around Lake Wolfsgruben and throughout the Weihrerhof garden, small information panels invite guests to rediscover the often overlooked world of plants and animals. Through QR codes, guests can explore stories about the lake’s ecosystem, answer small quiz questions and learn more about the nature directly surrounding them.
With Uferblicke, we want to show that sustainability is not only about numbers, reports and technical measures. Often, it begins with awareness. With being amazed by a dragonfly at the lakeshore, a rare plant or the many small connections that create a healthy ecosystem.
Receiving this award within ETSM 2030 made us especially proud. Not simply because of the prize itself, but because it confirmed something we deeply believe in: when people understand nature, they begin to value it. And what we value, we protect.

Sustainability also means consciously staying small
While many places continue to grow bigger and bigger, we still believe in the strength of small structures. The Weihrerhof intentionally remains a small nature hotel with only 23 rooms directly by the lake.
For us, fewer guests often mean more peace, more personality and a more respectful relationship with this unique natural environment.
Maybe that is already a form of luxury today:
not bigger, faster or louder. But more authentic, calmer and closer to nature.

Sustainable holidays by the lake in South Tyrol
Many guests tell us they do not choose the Weihrerhof because of a sustainability label. They choose it because of the feeling they experience here.
Because of the peace at Lake Wolfsgruben.
Because of the intimate size with only 23 rooms.
Because nature begins right outside the door.
And perhaps also because people can feel that many things here have intentionally remained simple.
For us, this is what sustainable tourism in South Tyrol means:
not faster. Not bigger. But more genuine.

Looking ahead
We already have many ideas and projects for the years ahead. Not everything has to become bigger or more spectacular immediately. Often, the best changes happen step by step.
Our goal remains the same:
to create a place where both people and nature can feel well in the long term.
And we look forward to continuing this path in 2026. Step by step. Right here at Lake Wolfsgruben.
