The South Tyrolean Wine Road and Lake Kaltern

A journey along South Tyrol’s oldest wine road is well worth it.
Around Bolzano, you’ll find vineyards producing the velvety and full-bodied St. Magdalener and the characterful Lagrein.
In the Überetsch and Etschtal regions, it’s all about excellent white wines and rediscovering the renowned Kalterersee Vernatsch.
Further south, in Tramin, the home of Gewürztraminer, you’ll encounter this delicately aromatic and spicy white wine right where it was born.

Before long, your explorations will bring you to Lake Kaltern, South Tyrol’s largest natural bathing lake. In summer, it draws countless water sports enthusiasts to its shores. Well-maintained lidos with sunbathing lawns and restaurants, as well as parking areas and boat rentals, make it easy to enjoy. There’s also a discovery trail through the surrounding wetland biotope, making Lake Kaltern a fantastic destination for a full-day family outing.
